1. Does modern technology make life more convenient, or was life better when technology was simpler?

2. Will modern technology, such as the Internet ever replace the book or the written word as the main source of information?

3. We are becoming increasingly dependent on computers. They are used in businesses, hospitals, crime detection and even to fly planes. What things will they be used for in future?.Is this dependence on computers a good thing or should we be more suspicious of their benefits? Use specific details and examples in your answer.

4. In what ways has information technology changed work and working practices in the past 10 years?

5. Technology is making communication easier in today's world, but at the expense of personal contact as many people choose to work at home in front of a computer screen.

Media and advertising

1. Are famous people treated unfairly by the media ? Should they be given more privacy, or is the price of their fame an invasion into their private lives?

2. News editors decide what to broadcast on TV and what to print in newspapers. What factors do you think influence their decisions? Have we become used to bad news? Would it be better if more good news was reported?

3. TV: could you be without it? Discuss.

4. The mass media, including TV, radio and newspapers, have great influence in shaping people's ideas. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answer.

5. Newspapers and books are outdated. Why do some people believe this? What is your opinion?

Money and business

1. Small local businesses are not able to compete due to development and expansion of supermarkets. It means death to local communities. Discuss.

2. An increasing number of people buy products online. What are the advantages and disadvantages for individuals and companies?

3. Marketing and promotion is the key to successful business. Do you agree?

4. Staff performance influences on success of a company. What can a company do to increase productivity?

5. What are the advantages and disadvantages of wearing a uniform for a company?

6. What are the advantages and disadvantages of a family run business?

7. Companies should employ people who are innovative, or those who can follow instructions?

8. Some people believe that the only way to succeed for a company is a unique product. What factors influence the success of a company?

9. Companies should not employ young women to avoid paying the maternity leave. Discuss.

10. Irresponsible use of credit cards cause debts. Banks should not issue a credit card unless they are sure of individuals ability to pay? Do you agree or disagree?

11. The higher the price the more people want to buy it. To what extend does price influence potential buyers? What other factors influence people to buy?

12. The only way to judge success of business is the amount of money they make. Is money the true indicator of success? In what other ways can success be measured?

13.It is better for a countries economy for people to save money or to spend money?
